Private Home Care Services

Choose the home care services you need and pay for them directly, without waiting for government funding or completing a My Aged Care assessment.

Flexible support, when you need it

Capecare’s Private Home Care Services give you greater choice over the support you receive, how often it is provided and when it takes place.

Private home care may be suitable if you would like to:

  • begin receiving support quickly
  • receive care while waiting for a My Aged Care assessment or government funding
  • purchase only the services you need
  • add extra support to your existing CHSP or Support at Home services
  • arrange short-term help after illness, injury or a hospital stay
  • receive ongoing assistance to remain safe and independent at home
  • choose the timing and frequency of your services
  • increase, reduce, pause or cancel your support as your circumstances change.

Services can generally begin within one week, depending on the type of support required, your location and current service availability.

Who are Private Home Care Services for?

Private Home Care Services are available to people who would benefit from practical or clinical support at home and prefer to pay directly for the services they receive.

They may be suitable for:

  • people who are not eligible for government-funded aged care
  • people waiting for a My Aged Care assessment or government funding
  • existing CHSP or Support at Home clients who would like additional services
  • people needing short-term support after a hospital stay, illness or injury
  • carers arranging extra help for a family member
  • people who are ageing and would like some assistance to remain safe, comfortable and independent at home.

You do not need a My Aged Care assessment, government funding approval or referral to access Capecare’s Private Home Care Services.

Before clinical services begin, we may ask for relevant medical information, medication details or care instructions to help us provide safe and appropriate support. Our team will discuss any information required with you during your assessment.

A family member, carer or another trusted person can enquire on your behalf, with your permission.

Contact Capecare directly to discuss the support you need.

How to get started

1. Contact Capecare

Contact our Community team directly to discuss the services you are looking for.

You do not need to contact My Aged Care or obtain a GP or hospital referral before speaking with us.

2. Have a free assessment

A member of our Community team will talk with you about your needs, preferences, health information and goals.

Your initial assessment is free and helps us understand which services may be suitable and whether any medical information or care instructions are required.

3. Agree on your services and costs

Together, we will develop a personalised service plan outlining:

  • the support to be provided
  • when and how often services will be delivered
  • your preferences and goals
  • the outcomes you would like to achieve.

We will explain the current fees and charges and provide you with a service agreement before support begins.

The agreement will also explain how you can increase, reduce, pause or cancel your services, including any notice periods or charges that may apply.

A one-off $500 establishment fee applies when you commence services.

4. Start receiving support

Once your assessment, service plan and agreement are complete, services can generally begin within one week.

The exact start date will depend on the type of support required, your location and current service availability. Our team will keep you informed and arrange a commencement date with you.

Your regular point of contact

As a private home care client, you will have a regular Client Services Coordinator who will be your main point of contact.

Your Client Services Coordinator will:

  • help coordinate your services
  • answer questions about your support
  • review how your services are working
  • help you increase, reduce or change services
  • remain a familiar contact as your needs or circumstances change.

With your permission, they can also communicate with family members, carers and health professionals involved in your care.

What will Private Home Care Services cost?

Ongoing service costs

The cost of your support will depend on:

  • the type of service you receive
  • the length and frequency of visits
  • the day and time the service is provided
  • any applicable travel charges.

The minimum visit length is one hour.

Weekday, evening, weekend and public holiday rates, along with any other applicable charges, are detailed in Capecare’s Private Home Care Services Fee Schedule. (add link)

Travel charges

Travel is charged at $1 per kilometre within Capecare’s service area, where applicable.

Our team will explain when travel charges apply before your services begin.

How can I pay?

Clients can pay:

  • by invoice, or
  • through fortnightly direct debit.

Private Home Care Services are paid for directly by the client and cannot be charged to another funding source.

Existing CHSP or Support at Home clients can still purchase additional private home care services, but the cost of those additional services must be paid privately.
