Position Title: Work Health and Safety Officer (part-time)

Direct Supervisor: GM – People & Culture

Main Purpose of Position

This hands-on role is instrumental in supporting the growth and enhancement of our Safety initiatives and culture across all areas of the business. You will be responsible for supporting the business, reduce risks and promoting a pro-active safety culture. The role ensures compliance training needs are met across the organisation. Supported by administration, this busy role is integral to organisational safety.

Standards of Performance

  • Observe and comply with all health and safety instructions, procedures, signs and notices relating to your work and correctly use the appropriate protective clothing and equipment supplied.
  • Follow Infection Prevention and Control procedures and standards relevant to the role.
  • Use correct documented procedures to correct, if possible, and immediately report any unsafe situations, near-miss incidents and all work related injuries.
  • Maintain good housekeeping at all times.

Education/Qualifications

  • Minimum Cert lV in Work Health & Safety or equivalent

Technical Competencies and Skills

  • Experience in ICAM and root cause investigations
  • Experience in the Workers Compensation process and assisting with Return to Work Programs
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation.
  • Highly developed coaching and training skills
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing workloads.

Relevant Experience

  • Experience in a Health Care setting, specifically aged care, would be seen as beneficial

Key Accountabilities of the Role

The successful applicant will have a strong focus on compliance and the ability to:

  • Mentor and support our Work Health and Safety Committee
  • Practically apply WHS legislation
  • Investigate safety incidents
  • Reduce risks and promote a positive and pro-active safety culture within our workplace
  • Lead safety-based training activities
