Capecare is proud to be celebrating 50 years of service to communities in Busselton & the South west

Capecare (originally known as Villa Maria Homes) was registered as an association on the 18 September 1961.

Property was donated by Jack and Maud Ray to be used for charitable purposes, in particular care for the aged. Mr and Mrs Ray and Monsignor Charles Cunningham (Mrs Ray’s brother) formed the first Board and determined the aims of the organisation. The first objective was to build aged persons units, with the first seven residents moving in, in 1963. In 1967 the plans for an aged person’s hostel to house 32 frail aged residents were drawn up. Jack Ray died in August 1969 while working on the hostel, which was subsequently opened in October of that year and named Ray Lodge. Mrs Ray passed away in October 1970.
